    DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Archi-Tectonics aims to focus on each project’s “core essence”. We analyze and research programmatic efficiencies, optimize space, innovate its use, collapse functions, all to result in a new design language and space formation. We are interested in the use of hybrid sustainable materials and smart building systems. We emphasize communication with our clients, and cooperate with an experienced, internationally acclaimed, team of consultants and engineers to provide full expertise and to add value to the project. The use of digital design and project management not only increases efficiency and communication in the construction team, but even more ; we facilitate the construction of innovative structures with a new design aesthetic.

“Abstract and skeletal, Dubbeldam’s folds imbue this salon with an unmistakable elegance and sophistication while maintaining an equal measure of tectonic clarity, aesthetic economy, and purpose” writes Henry Urbach in Interior Design Magazine.

    SUSTAINABILITY

A State of Mind - In 2007, Archi-Tectonics won the City of New York held Design Competition for a new, sustainable waterfront development in Staten Island, NYC. Archi-Tectonics’ winning scheme employed an integrated series of systems and green materials requiring low maintenance, low energy use, high recycled content, and low environmental impact. Systems include a geothermal heating and cooling system, wind turbines, integrated photovoltaic wall panels and solar hot water heating.

Our recent design for the Q-Tower in Philadelphia [55,000 sf], developed with MIT Media Lab, was designed to be a Smart Tower, incorporating geo-thermal energy, smart sensor technology and robotic systems. The envelope is designed to be 35% more energy efficient than the Department of Energy requirements. The pre-fabricated envelope fully encloses the thermal mass of the concrete floor slabs to provide maximum heating / cooling retention.

The 35,000 sf LRH Building, NYC, currently under construction, has a target goal of LEED Gold. The project is conceived as the integration of high-performance systems within the re-cycled shell of the existing building. The design accommodates a geothermal heating and cooling system, (the first in a residential conversion in New York City), rainwater recycling for green roofs, solar hot water heating through vacuum tubes, and soybean based sprayed- foam insulation that significantly increases envelope performance.

    RECENTLY COMPLETED BUILDINGS

Archi-Tectonics built to date seven  groundup buildings. The 80,000 sf mixed-use GW497 Building [2004] is an eleven-story structure with as its main feature a custom-designed folded curtain wall. A first in parametric design, we developed the geometry and engineering of the curtain wall through a 3-D computer model, it was fabricated globally and installed locally, this guaranteed exact measurements and facilitated fast production time. The building, through its glass facade, has passive solar energy.

We also recently completed the 14 story 60,000 sf American Loft Tower, Philadelphia [2009] with 40 residential units, the 2500 sf GT house, Upstate NY, the 3000 sf Prefab Dub Residencein Germany [2010], the 3500 sf Chelsea Townhouse [2011], the 39,000 sf Brewster Carriage House [2012], and the 40,000 sf Vestry Building [2013], all in Manhattan.

    TEAMWORK

Over the years we have built a strong, highly qualified team, ranging from car-designers, fabricators to craftsmen, to name a few. Co-creation with client, engineers and consultants have added critical value to our projects. The combination of Back to Basics and teamwork has proven to be a great multiplier of return on the client’s investments.
